May 10- Confederate Memorial Day

We bow our heads in solemn prayer
For those who wore the gray,
And clasp again their unseen hands
On our Memorial Day.

In memory of my known Confederate ancestors:
Robert Haines
Samuel Thornley
Nelson Funchess (killed at Fort Fisher, NC)
John Fultz
Thomas Fultz
John Ballentine
Andrew Ballentine
Lewis Ballentine
George Lynes

I will never forget your sacrifice or the sacrifice of your wives and families for the Confederate States.
"Sleep sweetly in your humble graves."

  3. I'm sorry to say that I did not realize that there was a Confederate Memorial Day. I also have several Confederate ancestors, and while I may not agree with some of their reasons for fighting (which, of course, I may never know) I respect them for fighting for what they believed in. Thank you for sharing this!

  4. The opening poem is very nice. Remembering and honoring all of our ancestors is so important regardless of which side they fought on.
